QuantumBloom Expands Workforce Programs to Address STEM Talent Attrition

Research Triangle Park, NC — June 25, 2026 — QuantumBloom, a retention and readiness infrastructure company focused on STEM talent, today announced the expansion of its workforce programs to serve all early-career technical professionals.

Only 28% of STEM-educated workers actually work in a STEM job while STEM job demand grows faster than every other job category. Most of the leakage occurs at the critical transition period between college and career where half of the educated STEM talent pipeline either never pursue a technical career or they leave in the first year.

“From the beginning, our mission has been to help employers attract, retain and develop technical talent,” said Anne Hungate, Founder and CEO of QuantumBloom. “Too many employers view the STEM talent crisis as a lack of supply and look to the education system to fix it. The real story is about retention. Companies can’t control the size of graduating classes or what their competitors offer. But they can control whether employees hired today are still with them five years later. That’s where the biggest opportunity exists.”

The expansion reflects QuantumBloom’s growing belief that the future competitiveness of technical organizations depends on attracting, retaining, and developing talent early enough for expertise, judgment, and leadership capability to compound over time. It also follows several years of implementation, measurement, and participant feedback across QuantumBloom’s three offerings. The resulting data show that structured development can drive real retention outcomes, including among populations historically at elevated risk of leaving STEM careers.

In a recent cohort, participants who entered the program with elevated turnover risk indicators reversed those indicators by the 6-month mark, with some posting composite outcome gains of 30+ points out of 100. Authenticity at Work, a leading indicator of retention and organizational commitment, increased significantly (n=20, p=.01) and attendance was meaningfully correlated with outcomes (r=0.51), meaning participants who showed up more, improved more. One participant, a PhD semiconductor engineer at significant risk of leaving the company and the field, reversed risk indicators entirely.

Replacing a single early-career technical employee, particularly a specialized PhD, costs employers up to 300% of that person’s salary, contributing to an estimated $1 trillion in annual voluntary turnover costs.

“Most leaders intuitively know that turnover is expensive,” said Hungate. “However, most leaders don’t calculate the actual costs hitting the company’s bottom line. The business case is there but needs to be communicated in ways the CFO understands if we are ever going to reverse the STEM exodus.”

In addition to helping companies bolster their STEM talent pipeline and avoid the costs of turnover, this expansion comes at a time when AI is increasing the demand for the human capabilities that complement technical expertise including communication, collaboration, judgment, influence, and leadership.

“AI doesn’t reduce the need for skilled technical talent, it just raises the bar for what ‘skilled’ means,” said Andrea Mohamed, Co-Founder and COO of QuantumBloom. “As employers invest in AI, they must co-invest in developing the durable human skills that schools don’t teach. The ones who invest in people will have a compounding advantage. Those who don’t will have difficulty remaining competitive with technology alone.”

QuantumBloom’s curriculum is built around dimensions of professional effectiveness that support long-term retention, advancement, and workforce readiness:

  • Personal Leadership: self-awareness, confidence, resilience, authenticity
  • People Leadership: communication, influence, collaboration, relationships
  • Results Leadership: strategic thinking, decision-making, accountability, execution
  • Thought Leadership: innovation, visibility, idea generation, professional impact

The company’s three offerings (Rise & Retain, Ripple, and Reach) deliver the same evidence-based curriculum at different depths and modalities, ranging from comprehensive cohort experiences with manager tracks to turnkey group programming and scalable, self-paced learning.

To help employers better understand the business impact of turnover, QuantumBloom offers a complimentary workforce analysis that estimates attrition exposure, replacement costs, and opportunities to improve retention among technical talent populations.
